Indications

  • As a single treatment modality for tumors which cannot be controlled by surgery Cancer therapy overview.
  • Combined with surgery for treatment of bulky tumors: usually post-operative, but possibly pre-operative (neoadjuvant).
  • Most effective and least toxic when employed as local treatment when no metastases present.
  • In rabbits it is most useful and most frequently used for cases of thymoma Thymus: neoplasia, although it can also be used for tumors of the extremities, oral cavity, nasal cavity or intracranial tumors.
  • Rarely used in rabbits in combination with chemotherapy Chemotherapy: general principles for highly metastatic tumors; there is risk of potentiation of side-effects with some drugs.
