Introduction

  • To introduce a large bore flexible silicon catheter with lockable stylet into a large vein (such as the jugular).

Uses

Advantages

  • Simple procedure.
  • Can be performed without anesthesia.

Disadvantages

  • Bleeds more than Seldinger technique - easily controlled with light pressure dressing.
