General information

  • To date, the breed is recognized only by TICA (The International Cat Association), although the UK's GCCF (Governing Council of the Cat Fancy) registers the Sphynx to prevent breeding with the Devon Rex.
  • Sphynx cats can be just as colorful as cats with hair, as the skin comes in a variety of pigments.
  • Without the insulating properties of a coat, the Sphynx is highly susceptible to cold and heat, and must be kept as a house cat.
  • Despite the absence of fur, Sphynx cats require grooming - a sponge down with warm water - to ensure that dander does not build up on the skin.
  • Quiet, loyal, affectionate and sweet-tempered, the Sphynx is ideally suited to a role as a house cat.
