Bone: internal fixation - wires

pequis

Introduction

  • Wire sutures can be used alone or in conjunction with screws Bone: internal fixation - screws, plates Bone: internal fixation - plates or pins/nails Bone: internal fixation - pins and nails to stabilize fractures MCP / MTP joint: angular deformity 03 - DPa radiograph.
  • Stainless steel wire provides a strong, small diameter, versatile, malleable material which is useful for stabilizing small fracture fragments with limited space for screw insertion, but applies only a limited amount of compression to the fracture line.
  • Existing firm structures can be utilized as anchor points to increase the compression on a fracture site, eg teeth in mandibular/maxillary fractures Mandible / maxilla: fracture - repair Mandible: fracture 02 - incisive repair with wireMandible: fracture 07 - repair (wire)Mandible: fracture 08 - repair (wire).
  • Tension band pin/screw and wire techniques can be used to counter distractive forces on certain fractures lines, eg tendon pull in olecranon fractures.
