Introduction

  • Dressings may be used for:
    • Protection of surgical wounds.
    • First aid.
    • Management of open wounds.

Uses

  • Protective 'cover' for surgical wounds.
  • First aid prior to treatment, eg to control immediate hemorrhage, prevent further contamination of open wounds.
  • Debridement of necrotic/sloughy wounds.
  • Absorption of exudate or donation of moisture to provide a 'Moist Wound Healing' environment.
  • Manage infection.
  • Reduce pain.
  • Maintenance of temperature.
