Introduction

  • To introduce a Foley catheter into the bladder.

Uses

  • To perform diagnostic radiology, eg cystourethrogram.
  • Urinary output measurement in acute renal failure Kidney: acute kidney injury (AKI).
  • Urinary obstruction.
  • Urine sampling.

Advantages

  • Can be performed in conscious animal, although sedation and/or analgesia may be required.

Disadvantages

  • May introduce bacterial infection.
