Introduction

Ureteric trauma - avulsion at the bladder
  • Avulsed ureters may be reimplanted (see ectopic ureter Ureter: ectopic ).
  • Where the distal ureter is traumatized beyond repair it may be appropriate to consider uretero-ureteric anastomosis, or the creation of a vesicular conduit by making a pouch from the bladder wall.
Ureteric trauma - other sites
  • Transected ureters may be repaired by end-to-end anastomosis.
  • Alternatives: anastomosis to contralateral ureter, ureteronephrectomy Ureteronephrectomy.

Uses

  • To re-establish urine flow from the kidney into the urinary bladder.

Advantages

  • Preserves renal function.
