  • Complete removal of intestinal FB's.
  • Ability to grossly examine intestines.
  • Ability to assess viability or integrity of damaged intestinal walls.
    Full thickness intestinal biopsies have a higher diagnostic yield potential compared to endoscopic intestinal biopsies Enteroscopy.

Disadvantages

  • Increased risk due to invasive surgical procedure.
  • Anesthetic risks.
  • Post-op complications due to dehiscence of enterotomy site leading to peritonitis Peritonitis or death.
