Interactions

with other drugs



Other anti-arrhythmic agents
  • Increased myocardial depression may develop.
Anticholinesterases, eg pyridostigmine
  • May be antagonized by procainamide.
Hypotensive drugs
  • May be potentiated by procainamide.
Cimetidine
  • Inhibits the metabolism of procainamide and decreases the renal clearance of procainamide and NALA (active metabolite), thereby increasing serum levels.
Neuromuscular blockers, eg suxamethonium
  • May be potentiated or prolonged by procainamide.
Agents having neuromuscular blocking activity, eg aminoglycosides
  • Muscle relaxant effect may be potentiated or prolonged by procainamide.
Digoxin
