Introduction

Extravascular/perivascular injection
  • Where some or all of an intravenous injection is inadvertently administered outside of the vein.
  • This occurs most commonly outside the vein (extravascular).
  • It also occurs when some of the injection is administered within the vessel wall (perivascular) but not into the bloodstream.
