Synonym(s): Paratrichial (epitrichial apocrine sweat gland cyst, apocrine cystomatosis


Introduction

  • Common, single or multiple.
  • Cause: obstruction of paratrichial sweat glands causing swellings which may become inflamed.
  • Rare - apocrine cystomatosis - multiple dilated sweat glands producing groups of vesicles.
  • Signs: skin nodules.
  • Diagnosis: histopathology.
  • Treatment: surgical excision.
  • Prognosis: good.

Pathophysiology

  • Probably caused by blockage of epitrichial gland ducts.

Timecourse

  • Weeks to months.
