Canis ISSN: 2398-2942 Hypercalcitonism Introduction Introduction Cause: high dietary calcium induces hypercalcemia which stimulates calcitonin production and thus inhibits bone resorption. High dietary calcium stimulates gastrin production which also stimulates calcitonin and maintains hypercalcitonism. Normal bone growth depends on a proper balance between apposition and resorption; calcitonin prevents resorption and also prevents normal maturation of growth cartilage. Hypercalcitonism implicated in osteochondrosis Osteochondrosis , panosteitis Panosteitis , hip dysplasia Hip: dysplasia , Wobbler syndrome Cervical spondylopathy , hypertrophic osteodystrophy Hypertrophic osteopathy.
