Introduction

General information

  • National breed of Portugal, established from the 16th century.
  • Three sizes (small, medium and large), each with two coat types (wirehaired, smooth haired), giving six varieties.
  • At present only the small Podengo is recognized by the Kennel Club in the UK, but the other sizes are gaining some popularity.
  • Thought to be a descendent of the Pharoah Hound Pharoah Hound.
  • Friendly, lively, intelligent and alert, making it a great companion dog for town or country.
