Bio

Robert Johnson (BVSc MANZCVS CertZooMed BA Grad Dip Asian Studies) graduated from the University of Sydney in 1977 and has worked in mixed, small animal, zoo, wildlife, and reptile practice. 

Robert is a member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (Feline Medicine) and holds a Certificate in Zoological Medicine from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. In May 2015 he was elected President of the Australian Veterinary Association (2015-2017). He is a board director of Vets Beyond Borders, a Policy Counsellor of the World Veterinary Association, and a past member of the Management Committee of Wildlife Health Australia (2018-2020). 

He has extensive clinical experience in zoo animal medicine and has presented and written widely on reptile, zoo and wildlife medicine. Robert has taught professional studies, reptile medicine and wildlife medicine at James Cook University (2006-2016). Since 2018 he has focused on zoo and wildlife medicine (Featherdale Wildlife Park and Taronga Conservation Society Australia) and livestock welfare (Chair, Stock Welfare Panel, NSW Government, Department of Primary Industries). 

In his spare time Robert draws cartoons, grows thistles, and tries to learn stuff.
